I was impressed how quickly they got an ad written, filmed, edited, and posted.

The whole entire discussion is stupid and overblown, but at least somebody is having fun with it.

Agreed. I thought the ad was a little cringy, but I certainly didn’t get outraged by it. The Internet sucks.

Except for Oppo. Oppo doesn’t suck. Mostly.

There needs to be term for these ‘outrage incidences’ where it is more perpetuated by websites that profit off clicks than actual people voicing there displeasure with something. I never saw anyone on social media actually posting their opinion about the ad, it was all people posting about the ‘outrage’ over the ad. Sure a couple of people complained, and then how many blogs got tens of millions of clicks all reposting the same angry tweets ?   This wasn’t even one of those time where someone created a petition and it got 500k+ signatures like Game of Thrones.

Everything that I saw on twitter was basically people saying it was a weird ad, and joking about it. So I don't know where "everyone is outraged about the ad" keeps coming from.

the internet learned me something about this- the gin is Aviation brand and Ryan Reynolds is the  owner.

Yeah, I didn’t know that he made gin either. But I’m not a gin drinker, either.

Very smart marketing to take advantage of the cultural moment.

I heard an interesting point made, that your perception of the initial ad lines up very closely with your personal relationship with exercise/fitness. People who love working out “get it” (this is the target market), while people who hate working out gave us the reaction that the media highlighted.

Honestly, what I disliked the most about it was the whole “documenting my personal journey” for Facebook/Instagram/whatever that everyone seems to have to do now... Are we all really that needy and desperate for affirmation?

Apparently we are. Having spent the last 4 days at some of NYC’s biggest holiday tourist destinations, I’ve seen throngs of people taking selfies and staging Instagram “candid” shots. It’s impossible to move at times because people simply stop in the middle of the sidewalk to stroke their egos.

Ugh... seems like 95% of kids these days want to grow up to be “influencers”.

I don’t know. I’m guessing a lot of these folks that look like they’re having lots of fun in exotic locales all the time are actually pretty miserable.

Or more interested in themselves than the location. I go to see, not to be seen.
